Dodgers collect 17 hits in win over Diamondbacks

First it was a three-run jack off of Dominic Leone, then it was another three-run home run off of Steve Hathaway in the seventh, and finally in the eighth it was a two-run bomb off of Evan Marshall.

The first inning was great foreshadowing for what the game would be like, as Arizona’s starting pitcher Patrick Corbin struggled to even throw a strike.

Kazmir (9-4) gave up four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Arizona started well, scoring a run without a hit in the top of the first, largely thanks to an error as Jean Segura stole second, allowing him to reach third. Ross Stripling’s pitch, called a ball, deflected off catcher Yasmani Grandal’s throat guard and lodged inside his chest protector.

Shipley (1-1) held the Dodgers to five hits in his second career start as the Diamondbacks won for only the third time in 11 games.

Undone by another rocky start, Scott Kazmir refused to link his latest disappointment to his first-inning struggles earlier this season.

According to Vin Scully on the SportsNet LA broadcast, Norris left the game with “muscle tightness in his back”.

Not sure why the Dodgers are such heavy favorites when they’re facing a sweep and have a pitcher on the mound who isn’t exactly Kershaw. After Saturday night’s game, Arizona traded RHP Tyler Clippard to the New York Yankees for prospect RHP Vince Compos, who was assigned to Triple-A Reno. If he pitches and recovers without incident, Greinke would be on an 80-pitch limit in his next start.

Dodgers: LHP Brett Anderson will make his next rehab start Tuesday for either Oklahoma City or Rancho Cucamonga, depending upon weather and travel considerations…. OF Pederson, 2B Chase Utley and 1B Adrian Gonzalez were not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup.

Dodgers: RHP Bud Norris (6-9,4.27) makes his seventh start for the Dodgers since being acquired from Atlanta in June.

The Diamondbacks improved their record to 20-1 this season when allowing three runs or fewer on the road, trailing only the 1981 Cardinals (21-1) in this scenario since 1901. The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in Corbins last 5 road starts vs. Dodgers.
