Postal workers’ union backs Corbyn in blow for Smith
Young Labour national committee member George Aylett pointed out that of the 51 CLPs that have nominated Mr Corbyn so far, only 21 did so last time.

“Jeremy is a leader for the millions, not the millionaires, and the CWU is proud to support him”.
Ms Onn said she felt Mr Smith’s message and vision would resonate with her South Humber constituents.
Mr Corbyn has already received the support of Aslef, the train drivers’ union, and Ucatt, the construction workers’ union.
In a letter to the lead signatory Paula Sherriff, the Labour leader says he wants to see a new role with a particular focus on threats to women.
“[The message] that’s being put forward by Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters is such a narrow message that it’s leaving so many people in the party who say “he doesn’t speak for me”.
Responding to reports in the Daily Telegraph that dissenting MPs are preparing to elect their own leader and launch a legal challenge for the party’s name and assets if Owen Smith fails to win the battle for the top job, Mr Corbyn branded the situation “bizarre”.
“If the party were to split, and I really, really hope it does not split, I think the Labour party would disappear in the way the Liberals disappeared”.
But he added: “2010 and 2015 – we lost those elections because of the continuation of the Blair/Brown/Milliband centre of the party”.
He also insisted that the “idea I live in a remote bubble of adulation is complete rubbish”.
Jeremy Corbyn has seen off a legal challenge that tried to force him off the Labour leadership ballot, but the party is facing fresh criticism over its decision to announce the victor on the same day as its main annual event for women.
“I make sure that I spend usually three days a week travelling around the country campaigning, supporting local parties, meeting people in factories, other workplaces, universities, schools, hospitals, all those places”, Corbyn said.
Writing in The Observer he said it would be the best way to guarantee fair pay. “It is time to end rip-off Britain”, he said.
Smith pledged to repeal the Trade Union Act 2016 immediately upon taking office and to outlaw exclusively foreign recruitment.

Workers should also have rights from day one of employment and unions should have automatic recognition in firms employing over 250 staff, he said. “Delivering that requires more than just rhetoric, it needs a credible plan”.
