MLB Rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Hill, Reddick
According to Ken Rosenthal, Los Angeles traded for both Josh Reddick and Rich Hill, with the A’s giving up both of their pending free agent pieces for a number of Dodgers’ prospects.

In exchange for the pair, the Dodgers are sending a hefty prospect package consisting of right-handed pitchers Frankie Montas, Grant Holmes, and Jharel Cotton. Reddick is batting.296/.368/.449 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs this season. The 29-year-old has been limited to 68 games this year after missing over a month with a fractured thumb, but when he has been on the field he’s performed well at the plate.
The Dodgers acquired outfielder Josh Reddick from the A’s on Monday morning. Hill has spent most of the last decade working out of the bullpen and the 76 innings he’s thrown this year are the most for him since 2007.
Reddick will help the team get better production out of its outfield against right-handed pitchers. Reddick is hitting.301/.373/.456/.829 this season with the Athletics.
Hill tried to make a start on July 17, but had to leave after only five pitches due to the blister.
Although Dodger Stadium is ranked next to last for scoring this season, according to ESPN’s Park Factors, it’s much better than the Oakland Coliseum for home runs – which is where Reddick’s value lies.
Buyers and sellers got together on trade deadline day as major league teams played a high-priced game of poker. That ends today and Roberts said before the game Sunday that the Dodgers would consider inserting another starter into the rotation at some point this week to give the starters an extra day off.
Holmes, 20, went 8-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 20 games (18 starts) with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga this year and has posted a 16-11 record with a 3.61 ERA in 55 games (52 starts) in three minor league seasons in the Dodger organization.
Oakland general manager David Forst said Friday that while no deal was close, Hill’s health status wouldn’t be a barrier to trading him if the club likes what it is being offered in return. “Hill is 9-3 with a 2.14 ERA in 14 starts for Oakland this year, adding another quality arm to a pitching staff that is fourth-best in the league in ERA”.
Cotton, 24, owns an 8-5 mark with a 4.90 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.

Chavez, 32, was 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 39 relief appearances for the Blue Jays this year.
