Officers kill woman barricaded in home with a child
A woman was shot and killed on Monday when an hours-long standoff at a Maryland apartment ended in an exchange of gunfire that also left a 5-year-old boy wounded. The man, who has yet to be identified, was wanted for assault.

Police negotiators tried to talk with Gaines, who they said pointed the gun at tactical officers several times.
One officer got a key from the landlord and opened the apartment after no one responded to repeated knocks. The officers retreated to the hallway, and a man ran from the apartment with a 1-year-old boy, authorities said. Other residents were evacuated from the building.
A police spokesperson said three officers were executing an arrest warrant on Ms Gaines and a man at the same address on Monday morning.
Police say they went to serve an arrest warrant around 9:30 a.m.in the unit block of Sulk Court when they found a woman armed with a juvenile with her.
All officers involved in this incident were placed on administrative leave, with their names expected to be released on Wednesday.

As the region still reels from the murder of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old Baltmorean who died on April 19 after suffering a spinal injury while in police custody a week before, anger against police violence remains high. “I don’t buy their story, ‘they don’t know if any police officer was wearing body cams, ‘” said one Twitter user. An investigation is ongoing.
