Send Bhagwant Mann to rehab centre, says Panel to Speaker

Mann’s act of posting the video on social media “put the security of Parliament in peril”, the Speaker had said while announcing the probe panel.

Mann had live-streamed his trip to Parliament last month and posted it on Facebook, triggering outrage from other members of the House.

Reports further suggest that there is unanimity in the 9 member committee that action must be taken against Bhagwant Mann for breaching the security of the house.

Members of the committee however were divided over whether Mann should be only reprimanded or also be handed a ban from participating in the remainder of the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, sources told ANI.

A few MPs are already collecting signatures on a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan urging her to take a strong action against Mann.

Bhagwant Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party MP who kicked off a controversy by live streaming the security arrangements at the Parliament, should be sent to a rehab centre for drug and alcohol de-addiction, some of his Lok Sabha colleagues have suggested. He then went back to being defiant after Mahajan set up the nine-member committee to evaluate Mann’s offence. Offering an unconditional apology for livestreaming the video, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann wrote a fresh letter to the committee defending his position.

He also reiterated his demand that the ambit of the panel be extended to summon the Prime Minister for “inviting” ISI personnel to the Pathankot airbase in the aftermath of a terror strike there in January.
