According to Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center treated almost 30 people who attended last year’s festival for alcohol- and drug-related ailments. The news has been confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“I think the venue they had it at this year wasn’t that great”, said 20-year-old college student Annabelle Muljana who has attended the last three Hard Summers.
Last week it was revealed that the parents of 19-year-old Katie Dix of Camarillo, one of two ravers who died following last year’s Hard Summer at the Fairplex in Pomona, is suing organizers of the event, including concert promoter Live Nation.
Since 2006, at least 24 people have died of drug-related causes at raves organized by Los Angeles-based companies, according to the Times. The extreme heat could not be ruled out as a possible cause of death, officials said. Capacity was said to be 40,000, with possibly fewer people attending than would have been allowed. “Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends”. Two deaths occurred Saturday and one on Sunday. At its new location at the Auto Club Speedway, the festival geared up for an extremely hot weekend.

Ecstasy is a popular drug at raves, where it’s used to enhance the musical experience. Besides the three, six other rave-goers were sent to the hospital. Twelve have died in Southern California – four in San Bernardino County and eight in Los Angeles County – and five in the Las Vegas area.
