A’s ship OF Reddick, P Hill to Dodgers in return for prospects

Since it’s common practice for every Major League Baseball team to check in with each other as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, this report doesn’t mean both sides are close on a deal. They already did get Melvin Upton for shared outfield duties which seemed to draw the end of going after a slugging corner outfielder. NY agreed to send Texas $3,708,333 on December 31 to offset part of the just over $5 million remaining in Beltran’s $15 million salary. Hill has spent most of the last decade working out of the bullpen and the 76 innings he’s thrown this year are the most for him since 2007.

However, A’s management is waiting for the right package in return to propel their left-handed starter out of the Bay Area.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither club had formally announced the swap.

Cotton could be an immediate contributor as he is experiencing some success in AAA, but Holmes is the prize the deal.

Holmes has a 4.02 ERA with an 8.5 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 20 appearances, 18 starts, for High-A this season.

Jonathan Lucroy says he’s been traded to the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.

Reddick’s Twitter message included a heartfelt thanks to the A’s organization and Reddick recalled “some very memorable and spectacular games”. This could include Reddick and Hill or even some combination that has Danny Valencia or Ryan Madson in the mix.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted of the A’s interest in an extension with Hill, which followed up a Thursday comment from Oakland general manager David Forst that suggested keeping the 36-year-old long term was well within the realm of possibility. In 15 big league innings, he posted a 4.80 ERA and a 20:9 K:BB.

There was a slight cause for concern past year when Reddick’s hard-hit rate fell all the way to 24.7% against righties, the second-lowest rate of his career. This year, Holmes has been in the California League and has more than held his own in the hitter-friendly Cal League stadiums. He made the NL All-Star team for the third time.

You can’t feel satisfied yet with what Oakland has done at the trade deadline by merely moving Burns for a less talented outfielder.

This season, Beltran a.304 batting average, 22 homers, and 64 RBIs.

Reportedly, the White Sox are interested in Puig and he could be sent to Chicago for another starting pitcher. Especially when you consider virtually any team could have had Hill in free agency during the offseason before he ended up signing with Oakland on a one-year, $6 million flier. Hitting behind him, I feel the pitcher is pressing every time. He has also taken up shop twice on the disabled list, once for re-straining his oblique, while the other was because of a fractured thumb.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because it hadn’t been announced. Right-hander Bud Norris left Sunday’s game after just 13 pitches because of back muscle tightness.

Miami acquired Rea and right-hander Andrew Cashner on Friday as part of a push for a postseason spot, but Rea is of little use to the Marlins if he’s hurt.

The deal was announced two hours before the deadline for completing trades without waivers.

The headliner of this deal from the A’s perspective is Holmes, the 20-year-old SC native. That’s because Hill has made only three starts in the last two months because of a groin strain and blister problems – and one of those starts lasted five pitches. He’s now on the disabled list, but A’s manager Bob Melvin said in Cleveland on Sunday he expected Hill to be able to come off the DL and start Friday.
