Biden said Republican nominee Donald Trump was unprepared to deal with the country’s national security challenges and “has no clue what makes America great”. “And now, we have nominated our first woman to be president at a convention run by an African-American woman”.

“I accept your nomination for President of the United States”, Clinton said.

“For the struggling, the striving and the successful”.

“I’ve gone around the country talking to working families, and I’ve heard from many who feel the economy sure isn’t working for them”. The newly-minted Democratic nominee told the watching world just what America’s future with a female president will be like – and how there may not BE a future if Donald Trump is in charge! Her speech offered an olive branch to those unsure about her possible presidency, pointing out that she alone cannot fix our problems – as Trump asserted he could. The truth is through all these years … the service part has always come easier to me than the public part …

Hillary Clinton declared her belief in science. “From Baghdad and Kabul, to Nice and Paris and Brussels, to San Bernardino and Orlando, we’re dealing with determined enemies that must be defeated”, she said.

She concluded and said, “Yes, America’s destiny is ours to choose”.

Ahead of Clinton’s speech, retired four star General John Allen, the former head of United States and global forces in Afghanistan, delivered a powerful speech in which he told delegates that Clinton would be “exactly the Commander-in-Chief America needs”.

Mrs Clinton said the U.S. needed a leader who would work with allies to keep America safe.

“He’s taken the Republican Party a long way from “Morning in America” to midnight in America”.

Indeed, Bernie Sanders unequivocally endorsed Clinton for president on the opening night of the convention and reaffirmed his support at various events throughout the week.

DW’s Richard Walker had noticed earlier there were plenty of Bernie Sanders supporters in the room, eager to make a statement. “I don’t know how you beat that”.

“Your cause is our cause”.

There are already a lot of Democrats at this party, so what if we invited some Republicans?

“I sweat the details of policy”, she admitted.

“Tonight, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more flawless union: the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president”.

“I really loved Chelsea’s”, said Florida delegate Adriana Gonzalez, immediately after the speech ended Thursday night.

“Here’s the sad truth”. There is no other Donald Trump.
