Democratic convention begins in chaos as departing boss jeered

The disclosures prompted the resignation of DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the eve of the party’s convention in Philadelphia, where Clinton is expected to officially accept the nomination for president. The statement gave few details on the departure, but it comes as leaked emails show the DNC apparently favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the primary process, even though they are supposed to be impartial.

For Sanders supporters, this latest email scandal leaves them asking “what if”.

Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders booed the mention of Hillary Clinton’s name on the floor of the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, the opening day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. “It is critically important that we do not let up in our fight for a political revolution”, Sanders said in an email to supporters.

Donald Trump on Monday dismissed as a “joke” claims by Hillary Clinton’s campaign that Russian Federation is trying to help Trump by leaking thousands of emails from the Democratic National Committee.

“Her resignation opens up the possibility for new leadership at the top of the party that will stand with working people”, Sanders said.

“I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America’s future”, she said.

“It’s appalling”, Sanders supporter Burt Cohen said. “She’s done a lot for the party”, said Marion Williams.

Sanders, who has repeatedly called on Schultz to step down, reiterated his call in an interview with CNN on Sunday, saying he believed that the DNC was supporting Clinton and “at opposition to our campaign all along”.

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says he’s “shocked and incredibly disappointed” over the leak of internal DNC emails that were made public by hackers, according to Politico. If you want the Debbie Wasserman Schultz types out of office, you have to get involved, you have to support candidates like Tim Canova, because that’s the only way we’re ever going to really change the system and change the Democratic Party.

Clinton beat Sanders by fewer than 2,000 votes in Kentucky’s Democratic Primary in May.

Sanders, who endorsed Clinton two weeks ago after a long-fought primary, has sought to find common ground around the party platform and rules. This week, they are Sanders delegates at the convention.
