Pirates send Liriano to Blue Jays for Hutchinson
The Blue Jays ended up trading Scott Feldman for RHP prospect Guadalupe Chavez.

Astros: RHP Lance McCullers (6-4, 3.18 ERA) starts for the Astros on Tuesday coming off his second-straight double-digit strikeout performance and third in last five starts.
Feldman offers little upside, but terrific control keeps him consistently valuable. His other at-bat was a weak grounder.
The moves provide plenty of depth for both the rotation and the bullpen, filling a great need for the Blue Jays prior to the deadline.
It’s that same salary – as well as the inclusion of two prospects – that makes this deal look financially driven from Pittsburgh’s side. You would hope for an ERA just under 4 for either of these starters, a benchmark that Feldman typically meets.
Toronto general manager Ross Atkins said, “We feel like. transitioning him to a relief role will be the best thing for us being in a Game 7 of the World Series”. They ended up trading Jesse Chavez to the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Mike Bolsinger.
Liriano has a 6-11 record this season in 21 starts with a 5.46 earned-run average and 116 strikeouts this season. Watching a vintage Filthy Frankie start when he could spot his fastball, and get hitters to hack hopelessly at his slider and change up was such a joy. In contrast, lefties have hit.303 against him for his career, and he could really use an extra weapon to help offset this. He’s pitched fine in AAA this year, and should be prepared to pitch for the Jays if called upon. He’s been extremely homer prone this season, and Toronto only utilized him as a reliever. In 2016, Hutchison has only started two games and has a 4.97 ERA.
After Altuve opened the frame with a single to left field off Blue Jays right-hander Scott Feldman (5-4), Correa followed with his first hit of the game and major-league-leading fourth walk-off hit on this season. Before that happened, Francisco Liriano completely stifled the Cubs’ offense. Over that span he’s pitched to a 1.69 ERA and 3.10 FIP with 26 K’s, 29 hits and just four walks allowed. The Blue Jays lead the wild card by one game over the Boston Red Sox, who are 1.0 game up on the Detroit Tigers and 2.5 games up on the Houston Astros. He pretty much couldn’t touch Liriano the entire day. There is a real chance that he can rebound, but this is a very risky time for this experiment.
When he arrived at the park he was informed he had been traded to Toronto.
Even though Francisco Liriano’s final season in Pittsburgh was an utter disaster, I sincerely hope fans remember him not for that but for what he did from 2013-2015. Give me Houston and the low line. The 21-year-old is hitting.306 in 414 at-bats with seven triples, two home runs, and 49 RBIs. He’s played a ton of centre field this year, but it’s widely assumed that he will move over to a corner outfield position in the near future.
Feldman gives the Blue Jays some versatility.

On a day when Top 100 prospects were being flipped all over the place, Drew Hutchison was the only notable farm system asset the Blue Jays parted with, and that movie probably plays better in the National League Central than it did in the American League East.
