‘Jason Bourne’ opens at No. 1 over weekend
That is an impressive debut, compared to what the last installment in the franchise, “The Bourne Legacy” earned without Damon’s presence. By the same token, Bad Moms is bolstered by solid audience reviews, as it now holds an “A” rating on Cinemascore.

Join us next week as a little movie opens you may have heard of that everyone is anxiously looking forward to. Players are given dares by anonymous masses of watchers with the promise of cash prizes at the end of each dare, which they have to film themselves doing. The film’s set to significantly increase on this $110 million opening because it hasn’t even opened in India and Japan yet, which can be hugely profitable territories.
The action thriller, starring Matt Damon, scores the second-highest opening for the Bourne franchise since the actor’s last outing as the titular former Central Intelligence Agency assassin, The Bourne Ultimatum, in 2007. The film opened in first place in 27 of the 46 markets in which it played. But hey, let’s be honest, you don’t go to a Bourne film to listen to the riveting dialogue, you go for some good old fashioned action scenes. “Audiences were ready for it and satisfied”.
The second big new film this week was the R-rated comedy, Bad Moms.
Coming in at No. 2 is Star Trek Beyond with $24 million, followed by Bad Moms at No. 3 with $23.4 million, The Secret Life of Pets at No. 4 with $18.2 million and Lights Out at No. 5 with $10.8 million. Eighty-two percent of its opening weekend audience was female. Audiences liked it too, giving it an A- on Cinemascore.
The post Jason Bourne director wants next movie to feature “car chase down the Liffey” appeared first on Goss. The Illumination Entertainment and Universal film has earned a total of $296.2 million.
Another animated film, “Ice Age: Collision Course”, took fifth place with $11 million. The latest entry in the venerable sci-fi series has grossed an estimated $105.9 million since opening. A thriller starring Dave Franco and Emma Roberts as participants in a unsafe game of Truth-or-Dare, the film is expected to make 15 million over its extended five-day release (the film released on a Wednesday).
Falling from the top is Star Trek Beyond, which like its predecessor had a strong opening weekend but a heavy second frame. For a complete list of the statistics from last weekend’ box office, click on the link below.
