During the team portion of practice, the backup quarterback dropped back to pass and got his ankle rolled up on, per various reports.

Per David Helman of the Cowboys’ official website, Moore was not putting any weight on his right leg while being helped off the field. Moore was carted off, and the Cowboys backup quarterback situation became instantly muddied all over again.

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News noted left guard Jared Smith stepped on the quarterback’s ankle, which caused the injury.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters at the team’s training camp in Oxnard, Calif., that it was a broken ankle, but the team’s web site said Moore broke his leg.

The injury to Moore occurred near the end of the team practice. Dallas drafted former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott in the fourth round this year, and undrafted free agent Jameill Showers is in his second year.

At 36 years old, Romo isn’t going to get more durable.
