Trestle supports are weakening and firefighters expect the trestle to collapse.
The fire quickly moved to a 50-foot tall train trestle, parts of which collapsed throughout the evening as it burned to a crisp.
Crews responded to Southwest Tualatin Sherwood Road and Langer Farms Parkway on reports of a grass fire at 4:20 p.m. The line has been out of service for years and used sparingly by railway customers. Huge plumes of thick, black smoke can be seen all around Sherwood. Businesses on the east side of the train trestle were evacuated.
Firefighters worked to ensure that flames did not spread toward Northstar, Ulven said.
Officials say wires near your hearth are positioning a danger to go about 50 replying law enforcement.
Portland & Western Railroad reported that tank cars near the trestle were clean and empty and secured a safe distance away.
