Yankees admit MLB has changed, start to retool for future
CLEVELAND Serious about winning it all this season, the Cleveland Indians acquired left-handed reliever Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees on Sunday for four players.

The Indians sent four minor leaguers, including highly touted outfielder Clint Frazier, to NY for the 31-year-old Miller, who is expected to arrive in Cleveland on Sunday night and could be ready to join the bullpen when the club opens a series against Minnesota. A trade with the New York Yankees brought Andrew Miller to town, while it appeared a deal was in place to bring in Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy as well. Heller is now in AAA with a 2.49 ERA at the age of 24 and can hit triple digits at times, although not as consistently as Chapman.
Although Warren’s posted a sky-high ERA of 5.91 in 29 appearances this season, a return to NY could be just what the doctor ordered. Well, earlier today they were able to add some bullpen help with a familiar face. When Theo Epstein took over operations for the Cubs in 2011 he rebuilt the entire system from the ground up and built it up primarily through prospect hitters and waiting to sign major free agents until the team was a contender. From a fan perspective, it was hard to see the Yankees part ways with Miller, but he is set to make $18 million through 2018, and it would be pointless to hang onto him when the Yankees may not contend for a few years.
Seattle received left-hander Ariel Miranda. Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman are the only Baltimore starters who have been solid this season. A former 31st overall pick from the 2014 draft, he has pitched well at the Class-A level this season, sporting a 7-5 record with a 3.59 ERA in 95-and-one-third innings. The Indians have been lacking a quality lefty in the seventh and eighth innings, and Miller fills that void. The fact he is under contract through 2018 helps that sentiment just a bit. For the first time in the Brian Cashman era the Yankees are truly sellers who are entering rebuild mode. The deal came less than 12 hours after the Indians had reached agreement on the parameters of a swap with the Brewers for Lucroy. “I haven’t really gotten to know Cody that well but I’m looking forward to it”, Miller said. The centerpiece being switch-hitting catcher Francisco Mejia, the Indians’ sixth-ranked prospect. Lucroyblocked the trade Sunday morning.
Before the Indians played the Twins on August 1, Indians manager Terry Francona was asked what he thought about the job team president Chris Antonetti and his staff did at the trading deadline.
Aaron Judge and Mason Williams are on the disabled list. The move was made Sunday, when Miami recalled right-hander Nefi Ogando from triple-A New Orleans.
Rea was obtained from the San Diego Padres on Friday.
St. Louis added depth to the back half of its bullpen by acquiring the veteran left-hander from the Chicago White Sox.
For most big league pitchers, being handed the keys to the ninth inning would be a source of pride and excitement, and by Monday night, when the job is officially his, it will probably feel the same for Dellin Betances. This season in Arizona, he has a 4.30 ERA in 37 2/3 innings, along with 46 strikeouts and 15 walks.

Diaz, who was hit on his right thumb, was removed from the game. Over 89 games in Double-A, the 21-year old outfielder is batting.276/.356/.469 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs. There was no immediate announcement from the team regarding his status. NY hopes to get under the luxury tax threshold by no later than 2018, which would put the team in prime position to spend again after that season.
