Samsung bolsters pen and security on Note 7

Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s both have a very impressive resistance rating. While the device still retains its large 5.7-inch QHD bezel-less screen, the main attraction of the whole unit is the advanced S Pen.

The Galaxy Note7 will be available in New Zealand from August 19, and will be offered in Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx.

The stylus-equipped smartphone follows on from last year’s Galaxy Note 5, meaning that Samsung has skipped out the Note 6.

The enhanced Galaxy Note7 S Pen is more than just a writing tool – it is the gateway to getting more done efficiently and accurately.

Number 8 refers to how much water the Galaxy Note 7 can withstand. The company says Note customers are its most loyal and are the most satisfied. We wonder how that more complex setup will affect potential tip replacements, though. While there may have been more than one gadget to reveal, the star of the event was clearly the new Galaxy Note 7. Get the Galaxy Note7 on the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network and access buffer-free video streaming, instant social sharing and crystal-clear call quality.

It is also the first time for an S-Pen to have a translation feature. Users can also login into a TabPro S by pattern authentication-by drawing specific shapes-on a Note 7. And because Note 7 and the pen itself is water resistant, you can even write on a screen that gets wet, something I got to successfully demonstrate. (You’ll have to set up the language you want to use ahead of time.) You can also hover over text to zoom in by up to 300%.

And through the S Pen you can create your own animated GIFs.

Basically, if you’re concerned about display, the Galaxy Note 7 is the clear victor.

In announcing the new device, Samsung pitched the iris scanner as part of a larger, powerful security apparatus. You can even jot down notes underwater, which is a pretty cool new feature. As well as the iris scanner, it comes with a secure folder that can be locked using the iris scanner, fingerprints or traditional codes. Apart from a fingerprint sensor, the Galaxy Note 7 includes an iris scanner as well, which can be used for Samsung Pay as well. Highlighting the Note 7 is a 5.7-inch quad HD dual-edge Super AMOLED display (2,560-by-1,440 resolution, 518 pixels per inch) that’s covered with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 octa-core 64-bit processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 memory, 64GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot for additional storage via memory cards up to 256GB.

In terms of camera, the handset gets the same 12MP rear camera featured on the S7 and S7 Edge. The Galaxy Note7 is equipped with a 3,500mAh battery, easy Power Management UX through Smart Manager, and charges quickly using the new USB Type-C port. Recharge the Galaxy Note7 wherever wireless charging is available. It also stands apart because it charges not with the standard micro-USB cable, but with a USB-C cable.
