Trump gets slight rebuke from top Florida Republicans, but not Rick Scott
The three candidates running to replace U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy didn’t entirely agree with Trump’s comments about Capt. Humayun Khan’s parents, who gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention last week.

“It’s just inappropriate for us in this context to be criticizing them and I’m not going to participate in that”, Christie said.
“Let me ask you”, said Mr. Khan, a Harvard-trained lawyer, speaking directly to Mr. Trump as he pulled out a pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution, with a photo of his son looming on the screen behind him.

McCain and other Republican leaders have said that Humayun Khan sacrificed for his country, and his family doesn’t deserve to be questioned by Trump. In an interview with a local OH media outlet on Monday, Trump suggested that the Khans’ real reason for opposing his candidacy had to do with the candidate’s opposition to terrorism. She later said she was overcome with grief. “To me it’s really a matter of character for Mr. Trump”.
Trump has previously called for a “total and complete” ban on Muslim immigration to the US, said he would implement a database to track Muslims Americans and claimed he watched thousands of Muslim Americans celebrating the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “But I don’t believe in him and I know how strong the women are in Islam”.
Mr. Trump drew a huge crowd to a rally Tuesday in the Virginia suburbs of Washington – and also attracted a sizable number of protesters dressed in traditional Muslim clothes, who said he’s gone too far in attacking their religion.
Yet Scott found himself alone in his full support of Trump.
The uproar over Donald Trump’s criticism of a bereaved Army family put vulnerable GOP senators in a tight spot, underscoring anew the political challenges created for Republicans by their newly minted presidential nominee. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, the nation’s oldest and largest veterans organization, called Trump out of bounds for tangling with Khizr and Ghazala Khan, whose son was killed in 2004.
A day earlier, Sally Bradshaw, an architect of the Republican National Committee’s 2013 “Growth and Opportunity” report, said she’s leaving the GOP. “As commander in chief, I’m pretty exhausted of some folks trash-talking America’s military and troops”, he told the DAV.
Khizr Khan: “Donald Trump, you’re asking Americans to trust you with their future”.
Eleven families in the Gold Star Mothers of America, a congressionally chartered patriotic support group for the parents of soldiers killed in action, issued an open letter to Trump demanding an apology on Monday. Trump is backed by all but two vulnerable GOP senators – Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, who is still in a “wait-and-see” mode, and Mark Kirk of IL, who withdrew his endorsement after Trump’s attacks on a USA judge of Mexican heritage.
Haidar added that Khan died in an “invasion of Iraq, killing other Muslims”.

Speaker Paul Ryan was slightly more forceful: “Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice”. It was, and is, a lot to process, and the complexity of the situation has driven people to revisit the basics: Who is Khizr Khan, and how did he and his family come to be such a public example of American values?
