Rio traffic eased by new holiday

An increasingly-sports focused Twitter have announced plans to take on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

“If you’re on the West Coast and you want to watch it live, you can stream it live”, executive producer Jim Bell told reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association fall previews.

The Rio Olympic Torch relay began with the traditional Olympic flame lighting ceremony in the Greek city of Olympia, birthplace of the ancient Games, on April 21, 2016.

This is Singapore’s joint-biggest contingent since the 2008 Beijing Games and the mood in the camp was one of quiet confidence even before the opening ceremony on Friday. So far, the best advice given athletes competing in open-water sailing or swimming events is to close their mouths and keep their heads above water, he added. “I guess some new [swimming] techniques will be required”, Costas snarked, following closely in the footsteps of a Stephen Colbert late-night gag about same, on Monday night.

Carillo, who will be covering the open-water events, compared the safety concerns of Rio with the goose droppings that plagued swimmers in London’s Hyde Park for the 2012 Olympics.

According to a 16-month-long study commissioned by The Associated Press, the waterways of Rio de Janeiro remain as filthy as ever just days before the Games begin and are contaminated with raw human sewage teeming with unsafe viruses and bacteria. “But once they are being held, the network that owned the rights to televise those Games was going to televise those Games”.

Asked if NBC could/should have leveraged its financial clout with the International Olympic Committee to get the Games moved or postponed, as more than a hundred doctors internationally had advocated a couple months earlier, Costas said he was not dodging the question but was not qualified to answer.

While Twitter’s Moments feature will be tracking the Olympic news, the social media company is pushing hard into live sports away from Rio.

Asked if NBC could have used its financial-stake clout to influence the IOC, Bell said he didn’t think so. “Is Disneyland responsible for bringing people to Florida?”
