The police say that Gaines then raised the gun and told officers she would kill them if they did not leave. Other residents were evacuated from the building. Baltimore County police say officers have shot and killed a woman who barricaded herself and a child inside a suburban Baltimore apartment and pointed a gun at them.

“During that dialogue and conversation, she repeatedly pointed a long gun at the police officers”, he said. None of the officers were struck.

The department said in a news release that the boy who was in the apartment with Korryn Gaines, 23, was shot in a limb Monday and taken to a hospital.

Her 5-year-old son, Kodi, was injured in the crossfire and is in good condition at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

At this point, an officer opened fire and Gaines fired back two shots. Both Gaines and Courtney are black, and police did not give details about the race of the officers who shot her.

During this time, Gaines apparently made video of her and the boy talking about the standoff.

The officers in question went to Gaines’ home early Monday to arrest her for skipping court for traffic violations and charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. On the front, the cardboard read “Free Traveler”.

Gaines holed up in her apartment, within view of the officers.

During the stop, she said officers were trying to “steal her vehicle”, that she wasn’t complying with officers’ “criminal” ways, and that they would have to “murder” her to get her out of her auto, according to court documents.

While waiting for the medic, she screamed to her son “to fight and bite” the officer who was watching him, police said. Police found her registration was suspended and uninsured. Her auto was towed, and the two children were released to their grandmother, police said.

According to a Facebook Government Request Report, the company received roughly 855 requests for emergency disclosures of information to government agencies due to the threat of harm or violence between July and December 2015.

According to journalist Shaun King, “Gaines regularly documented police abuse in the city” and her Facebook videos “right before police killed her have been deleted”. “Why? In order preserve the integrity of the negotiation process with her and for the safety of our personnel, her child”.

“We are of course extremely upset at an event like this”, Armacost said Monday night.

Based on the Instagram accounts, Gaines seems to have had harrowing experiences and prepared for the worst.

Baltimore Police are in the process of implementing body cameras for their officers. Only about 40 of the department’s officers have been trained on the cameras.

Armacost said police were working with Gaines’ father and mental health professionals, along with trained negotiators, throughout the day.

A crowd had gathered due to the commotion, and she yelled to them that she couldn’t breathe and told them to “record this”, police said.
