Cabrera powers Tigers past White Sox 11-5 for 7th straight

It was their seventh straight win, marking their first winning streak of that length since they won eight straight from April. 29-May 7, 2014. Sale has held Miguel Cabrera to 9-for-38 with 13 strikeouts, but the slugging first baseman is on a tear with five homers and 12 RBIs over his last six games.

Martinez hit his 18th home run in the eighth. Avisail Garcia unloaded his second home run of the game to cut the Tigers’ lead to 11-5.

“In terms of pitches thrown, he’s actually in real good shape”, Ausmus said. He had a 1.71 ERA if you go one more start back.

“Last week he was washed up, wasn’t he?” manager Brad Ausmus said sarcastically when asked about Cabrera’s resurgence. “That’s what he was doing when he was successful”.

ROYALS 3, RAYS 2: Salvador Perez, whose timing always seems to be so great, hits a two-run, go-ahead homer to lift the Royals in the seventh inning. By the time Chicago retired the Tigers, they’d scored six runs, hit two triples, and gotten four extra-base hits. “We’re tough on any starting pitcher, and it is beginning to show”. Todd Frazier tied for the major league lead with his 30th homer.

“You hate coming into a game because of an injury, but I wanted to take the chance I got”, said Garcia, who began his career with the Tigers. He had allowed only five runs in his previous four starts combined. Ventura said after the game that Tilson was undergoing tests, with results expected Wednesday. He had an extended one, just the way our rotation worked out.

The White Sox broke a scoreless tie on Dioner Navarro’s RBI single in the fourth.

Anibal Sanchez: Six innings of one-run ball. Rather, it was a more unlikely character in utility man Andrew Romine, who was filling in for Nick Castellanos at third base. Ian Kinsler singled and came home on Maybin’s triple down the left-field line. Justin Upton then singled and moved up on a fly ball to put runners on second and third with two outs. McCann, who has 15 career home runs, now has three in his last four games.

Garcia hit a two-run shot off Shane Greene in the seventh, but Kinsler had a two-run single to make it 10-3. Martinez hit a solo home run to right in the eighth inning.

The big man has made a decision to put the ball club on his broad shoulders and carry it for a bit.

White Sox rookie Charlie Tilson, making his major league debut, suffered a gruesome looking hamstring injury while chasing Cabrera’s double. His leg buckled under him, and Adam Eaton had to field the ball in right-centre while Tilson was lying on the field. His manager, Robin Ventura, is happy to still have his ace left-hander around for Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers crushed the Astros, 11-0, in Detroit on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep. LHP Daniel Norris (oblique) was activated from the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Toledo, where he will prep as Detroit’s sixth starter. Tilson, acquired in a trade with St. Louis on Sunday, got a hit in his first at-bat and went 1-for-2. It was the second time in two games that a visiting player got his first hit at Comerica Park.
