Clark said he signed the report on Monday.

The coroner’s office reported Sterling, 37, died from multiple gunshot wounds to the back and chest.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, D called on the USA attorney’s office and the Department of Justice to investigate Sterling’s death.

Cellphone video of the deadly encounter circulated within hours of Sterling’s shooting, which along with the shooting of a black man in Minnesota triggered nationwide protests.

The U.S. attorney’s office declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation. Without knowing more about the circumstances of the case, he said he could only speculate on a possible reason for sealing Sterling’s autopsy report. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore confirmed that both officers said they felt their actions were justified just after the shooting.

A federal judge has sealed the autopsy report for Alton Sterling, who was shot dead by Baton Rouge police last month.

The officers, whom authorities identified as four-year veteran Blane Salamoni and three-year veteran Howie Lake, drew their guns. Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie said that Sterling was armed, but didn’t say what type of weapon he had.

The report, signed by a Baton Rouge police detective, also says the officers saw the butt of a gun in one of Sterling’s trousers pockets and saw him try to reach for the gun before he was shot. The store owner believes things escalated beyond control too quickly, but did not see a gun in Sterling’s hand.

The officers were placed on administrative leave after the shooting, which is standard procedure.
