Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with iris scanner, octa-core SoC launched
Koh, Dong-jin, president of Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications business, is introducing the new Galaxy Note 7, the company’s flagship large-sized smartphone, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY on Tuesday.

Samsung says the Galaxy Note 7 will be available starting on August 19, and will arrive in Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx. The phone also comes with a USB Type-C port, a first for the Samsung device.
The Galaxy Note 7 features a Snapdragon 820 in the United States and China, while its other global variants get the Samsung-made Exynos 8890 processor – both of them are high-end processors. Still, if we had to put these features on opposite ends of a scale, the Note 7’s bundle of perks just seems a lot weightier overall.
One of the key selling points of the Note 7, especially for the security-conscious, is the introduction of an iris scanner that can be used to unlock the phone.
Sure the screen resolution of the Note 7 is high, and its curved in the edges as well, but take that away, and the iris scanner, the Note 7 is just a large slate with a stylus with nearly the same hardware specifications as the OnePlus 3. (Don’t worry, you won’t be surprised with a flash of light.) The data collected from the scan is saved and encrypted on the phone, and you can opt to unlock your phone.
The screen also offers support for Samsung’s new S Pen stylus, which is twice as sensitive to pressure as its predecessor and comes with a slimmer tip for more precise note-taking. It will have curved edges, a well-liked feature limited to a special “Edge” model before.
After weeks of constant speculation, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been officially unveiled. The phone sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD dual edge Super Amoled display of 1440×2560 pixel resolution protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The front camera is of 5 MP with the same aperture.
With a Note 7, users will be able to take clips from YouTube or their own videos to create shareable GIFs without downloading extra software. With Note 7, I believe Translate will be that feature.

Below we have listed all the specs and features of both the smartphones to help you decide which will prove as the best buy option. But given the feature set available in the phone it won’t be priced less than $700. The addition of a new Home button (next to the Back button above the trackpad) is a welcome addition, but all in all, if you’ve already got a Gear VR headset, there’s not much to justify an upgrade.
