Yelchin, 27, was killed on June 19 when his 2015 Grand Cherokee, which was under a recall issued by the automaker two months earlier, rolled backward in steep driveway of his Los Angeles home and crushed him against a brick wall and fence.

Anton Yelchin’s parents are to sue over the actor’s death.

On Tuesday, Victor and his wife Irina filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler.

Following the accident, Fiat Chrysler chiefs launched an investigation into Anton’s incident, while they were also hit with a class action lawsuit from fellow auto owners days after the actor’s accident.

Fiat Chrysler announced a recall of the car and other models in April after the USA auto safety regulator said 117 crashes and 28 injuries had been linked to the vehicles rolling off freely when drivers thought they had locked them in “park”.

The shifter in 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees operates like a joystick, returning to the same position no matter what gear the vehicle is in.

Anton Yelchin plays the leader of a punk band that winds up besieged by skinheads in a tense horror thriller.

As of late June, the NHTSA was aware of some 700 complaints regarding the issue, including 266 crashes and 68 injuries. Both the company and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have urged drivers of vehicles subject to the recall to set their parking brakes before getting out of their SUV. “The company has not been served with a lawsuit and can not comment further at this time”. “They put profits before safety”, he said.

The couple said they were speaking out “in spite of our unbelievable grief” to prevent other incidents like this from happening. “He left his vehicle and was on his way out at the time, believing his vehicle was in park”, he explained.

He was best known for playing Chekov in the Star Trek reboot movies, including 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond, which recently arrived in theaters.
