Three Chicago Officers Stripped of Duty After Teen Shot in Back
“(Police) investigators determined three officers discharged their weapons in the course of their duties and given what is known thus far, it appears that departmental policies may have been violated by at least two of the police officers”, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi wrote in an email Friday night.

Police say they are investigating why that officer’s body cam was not recording. That’s just what they’re focused on, but in this post-Laquan McDonald era, we all know that police accountability is a problem, Calloway said, according to CBS. In February 2015, former Superintendent Garry McCarthy revised the department’s policy on the use of deadly force to prohibit officers from “firing at or into a moving vehicle when the vehicle is the only force used against the sworn member or another person”. The convertible Jaguar vehicle was allegedly stolen from Bolingbrook.
Two Chicago officers involved in a shooting that left a suspect dead were relieved of their police powers even as the case is being investigated, police said. He had been suspected of stealing a vehicle.
Prior to his dismissal, two other officers related to O’Neal’s death were relieved of duty too.
This spring, body cameras were added to six more districts on the South and West Sides that were chosen based on a review of patrol activity, crime patterns, calls for service and geography.
O’Neal was black; police have not provided any identifying information about the officers who were involved.
The wrongful death lawsuit claims that officers effectively “executed” O’Neal, who was a suspect in a vehicle theft. Video from the body camera could have provided critical evidence in the shooting.
“Paul O’Neal’s constitutional rights were violated”, attorney Michael Oppenheimer told reporters. Police then started shooting at the driver of the auto, Paul. He then took off and sideswiped a police vehicle.
Their suspensions are unlikely to satiate anti-police brutality activists who are seeking criminal prosecutions against police who kill Black men with apparent impunity.
“The police department is now saying that these brand new body cameras that are supposed to save the world and give the police and the public transparency, did not work”, he said at a Monday press conference.
Deep-seated distrust of law enforcement continues to plague relations between police and some Chicago communities. The officers received the body cameras just days before the shooting.

Four officers on the scene of a fatal police-involved shooting were wearing body cameras. The city had 65 homicides in July alone, with 362 shooting incidents and 441 shooting victims, according to the Chicago Police Department.
