Aroldis Chapman traded to Cubs in blockbuster deal with Yankees, report says

This year is the first year he has played for the Yankees and he has not disappointed. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because talks were ongoing and NY owner Hal Steinbrenner had not made any final decision. Chapman will hit free agency following the 2016 Major League Baseball season and there is a chance that he will leave. “There’s no point in me sitting here campaigning for us to stay together”. After making the deal, Epstein was pleased that he still maintained several of his top trading chips in the minors that allowed him to continue pursuing a marquee pitcher of Chapman’s talents well in advance of the August 1 trade deadline. Heading into Monday night’s games, they are still 7-1/2 games back in the AL East, but none of the three teams ahead of them looks to be running away with anything.

Chapman has been one of MLB’s top closers over the last few years and, as you know, can consistently throw 100 miles per hour or even a bit better than that.

“It’s tough. I feel comfortable here”. “I don’t have any information but my agent did say that they’re talking to him, but that’s all I have”. Chapman also provides security against a division rival.

Chapman certainly has some baggage attached to him. “We’re trying to win games, and he’s a big part of that”. That’s a significant haul for a relief pitcher who will be a free agent at season’s end. “If there’s a possibility and God willing”.

Making 88 appearances for Double-A Tennessee in 2016, the 21-year-old outfielder posted a.252 batting average accompanied by one home run, 31 RBI and a.355 on-base percentage. Teixeira and Jacoby Ellsbury wore white Ken Griffey Jr. They are looking at Torres as their future star but Yankee players are still crossing their fingers that Chapman would come back and finish what they have started this year.

NY had won six of eight heading into Monday night’s game at Houston, but it still faces long odds of getting to the playoffs.

Nova is not the first Yankees starter to be linked in trade rumors this summer, as Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi are also said to be available on a weak market for starting pitchers. The Cubs enter Monday’s game with a combined ERA of 3.83, ranking seventh in the NL. “For me it’s day by day”.
