The Snohomish Health District said Tuesday the girl had recently traveled to Nicaragua, an area known to have mosquitoes infected with the virus.
CBC Dayton says they’re asking for that self-deferment while they update their screening procedures, which should be in place in the next week or so.
Zika virus is transmitted by vector Aedes aegypti, and through blood transfusions, sexual contact, and from mother to baby.
“Pregnant women are encouraged to visit all of Miami-Dade County – except one square mile”.
US Senator Sherrod Brown announced Tuesday that the money will allow Ohioan to more quickly identify any birth defects, microcephaly, or other Zika-related birth complications.
“We have hurricanes, so we prepare, and everybody knows we’re prepared”, he said. However, mosquito abatement efforts, so far, have not been as effective as health officials hoped. Using a barrier like a condom or dental dam can help protect you against the virus, which can be sexually transmitted.
However, women should avoid becoming pregnant while visiting the popular theme resort located in Orlando, said Professor Sam McConkey, head of the department of tropical medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons.
More than 1,600 Americans, including 21 Minnesotans, contracted confirmed Zika infections this year when traveling to the Caribbean or South American nations where the virus has spread.
“Up until very recently, nearly all the people infected by Zika traveled to those countries infected by Zika and came back home”, said Dr. Quoc Nguyen, the medical director of the Onondaga County Health Department.
“Right now there are no mosquitoes that we have found carrying the Zika virus in Tennessee or Knox county”, Martha Buchanan of Knox County Health Department said.

“Nothing that we have seen indicates widespread transmission but it is certainly possible there could be sustained transmission in small areas”, he added.
