The Cardinals announced Monday that shortstop Aledmys Diaz will be on the disabled list with an injured thumb.

Peralta, who has been sidelined by a strained ligament in his left thumb, is batting just.221 with five home runs and 13 RBIs in 30 games.
He was having an All-Star caliber campaign before going on the DL back on July 5, and though he’s missed a month, he ranks second among Cardinals hitters in both OPS (.910) and home runs (17). Duke, who the Cardinals acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in a Major League-leading 53 relief appearances this season. Diaz suffered the injury after being struck on the hand by a pitch in Sunday’s loss in Miami.
Grichuk, 24, was optioned to Memphis earlier in the season spending three weeks trying to right his approach at the plate.
– The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Julio Teheran on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain before their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Diaz’s success at short shifted the previously-entrenched St. Louis shortstop to third base, but Peralta is expected to slide back to his usual position now that the Cardinals are depleted there. He’s on a rehab assignment recovering from an oblique injury. He’s batted primarily fourth.
