Mariah Carey Talks Kids, Nick Cannon and “Abusive” Experience on ‘American Idol’
She then moved over to a rococo velvet-and-gold couch to field questions and toss a few wisecracks around.

The series will follow Carey as she kicks off her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” tour of the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa, all while planning her upcoming wedding. Carey’s daytime outfit: a sparkling, scanty black costume with a glittering microphone as accessory. If you see me on TV, or in a clip, or in a video, there’s not enough time to know the real me… “I think people just have to understand that I’ve had an interesting life and they should be compassionate and caring and loving and generous of spirit and amusing”, she said. Carey asked if anyone else wanted a touchup, adding, “It’s very expensive”.
During her news conference, the pop superstar often had journalists in stitches as she aggressively played on her diva image while answering some questions and dodging others. When asked who they might be, Carey quipped: “They would be lovely ladies – but it’s not their day”. Her tone sometimes veered intriguingly into the realm of 1930s movie sexpot and quipster Mae West.
With Mariah’s World now in the editing stage, Carey revealed that they’re still “drawing lines” between her public and private life, and she’s not sure how much she’ll want her 5-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, to be featured. “I can’t speak for what he thinks. He’s cool about coming around the show”.
So he’ll be on the show?
“I didn’t say that, darling”. “I said he came around”. I don’t know what makes the final cut.
“I’m sorry was that rude?” she asked sarcastically, after reporters gasped and laughed at her dig.
“I try to have them do as many activities as they can that aren’t just on the iPad”, Carey continued. But she admitted that the amount of access to her children is still a point of discussion with Cannon.
E!’s Mariah Carey-fronted unscripted series will bow on December 4 at 9/8c – but do not call it a reality show. “Mariah’s World” premieres in the United States and Canada on Sunday, Dec. 4, followed by airings on E!’s worldwide channels in Europe, Asia, Latin America and elsewhere.
Later this summer, Carey will return to Las Vegas for the second half of her “Mariah #1 to Infinity” residency at The Colosseum, then she will head to Latin America later this fall with her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” tour in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. She and fellow judge Nicki Minaj famously clashed during their one season on the talent series.
“Oh, it was the most abusive experience”.
“I love Scandal”, the singer told a roomful of rapt reporters when asked which shows she likes to binge while traveling.
