House will function once Sushma Swaraj answers questions: Rahul Gandhi
The Congress has been demanding the resignation of Ms Swaraj as well as Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for having helped Mr Modi, the former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Vyapam scam. Hitting out at the top Congress brass for the stalling of Parliament, he said the main opposition had taken a “maximalist position” that it would not allow the House to function “under any circumstance”.
Meanwhile, in a signal of cracks in opposition unity, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav assured Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday that his party would not join the protests led by the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
The Opposition party, however, told the Government that it was not amused by the politics of abuse resorted to by BJP leaders and Union Ministers against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Lashing out at Congress, he said, While in power, they pushed India backward, now in opposition they do not want India to move forward.
Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said it was a sign of Congress’ “political bankruptcy”, and “desperation”, that it was “using Lalit Modi’s tweets to fuel political agenda”. In Madhya Pradesh there are murders happening and our Prime Minister does not feel it necessary to comment on them.
AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP-led NDA Government of deliberately delaying the Special Status for Andhra Pradesh State.
On being asked whether the ongoing Parliament logjam will still continue after the recent suspension of twenty five Congress MPs, Chowdhury told the media here: “Once the government comes into its senses and gets back to work, we will see”. “Instead, they want to hurt country’s economic growth story”.
Continued protests by Congress members have forced a washout of Rajya Sabha proceedings for the third week, as the House failed to transact any business due to repeated adjournments. “This is the selective approach of the Congress. Is this the way to conduct the house?” “It is about time government takes action and delivers on this”, Gandhi said.
