A’s trade Rich Hill, Josh Reddick to Dodgers

Neither team has confirmed the deal. Here are the breakdowns of those trades and my reaction.

The Mets have struggled to hit and drive in runners with clutch hits this season.

Previous year it was the addition of Yoenis Cespedes that sparked the Mets offense and carried them to a trip to the World Series. I hope you have fun in LA. The mark ranks fifth in the National League. I don’t necessarily believe the Blue Jays need the best pitcher on the market, just the right one. The key for the Yankees is Tate, who must continue to develop and become an impact pitcher. However, this may not be a playoff team and the former Red may not be enough to put them over the top. But while the A’s can punt on a season and simply point toward the future, the Dodgers don’t have that luxury.

“The only thing to do now is play baseball”, Bruce said, according to Rosenthal.

The Oakland Athletics have lots of trades to make in the next 28 hours. At 59-46 at the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Dodgers trail their arch rival San Francisco Giants by two games in the NL West, but hold a two game lead for the top Wild Card spot in the NL. He launched 20 homers last season.

The A’s received minor leaguers Jharel Cotton and Grant Holmes, along with Frankie Montas, who made seven appearances with the White Sox past year.

LAD needed a reliable outfielder and bat, as well as a good pitcher, both of which they got.

A’s players took the news hard, because Reddick and Hill were among the most popular players in the clubhouse.

Rich Hill, 36 years old, is having the best year of his career. He’s 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA, 2.53 FIP, 1.092 WHIP and 90 strikeouts in 14 starts (76 innings) this season.

As I mentioned, Hill is now on the DL dealing with a blister on his throwing hand, but there is hop he could be removed from the DL this weekend.

The focus now shifts to Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who has been the subject of trade rumors of late amid a disappointing season. They reel in Josh Reddick and Rich Hill for a trio of prospects.

One of those three players was the now injured third baseman Matt Duffy, who had recently begun rehabbing on the comeback trail from an Achilles injury.

This off-season, Montas was one of the headline prospect names in the deal that landed Todd Frazier in Chicago.

Moore is a talented pitcher. The following year he injured his UCL, which required Tommy John Surgery after just two starts. In twenty-two games, Cotton has posted a 4.90 ERA. I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone like Grant Holmes, Yadier Alvarez, Yusniel Diaz, or Alex Verdugo added to this deal. The 29-year-old has been limited to 68 games this year after missing over a month with a fractured thumb, but when he has been on the field he’s performed well at the plate. Both were mired in injury concerns, and ironically they’re the last two standing.

And hey, it’s an even year.
