ABC News’ Sara Haines joins ‘The View’

The new co-host steps into season littered with barbs from the last (though this transition has certainly been easier than some of the past).

The 38-year-old reporter joins Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Paula Faris and Raven-Symoné.

Haines’s illustrative talk-show history continues; in 2002, the young journalist from Newton, Iowa joined up with the Today Show on NBC as a Production Coordinator.

Meanwhile, as ABC was confirming its Season 20 hosts on Wednesday, Whoopi was in full rant mode on Twitter over a Daily Mail report claiming co-host Faris believe’s Whoopi is behind her reduced appearances. ABC also named Jedediah Bila and Sunny Hostin as official contributors to “The View”.

According to ABC, the special will feature behind-the-scenes stories, celebrities’ favorite memories, the show’s most talked-about moments and reunite past co-hosts.

Panelist Purge season on The View began in June for what is becoming an annual rite of spring when producers and/or ABC News execs huddle and decide who will be the next season’s crop of Practically Perfect Panelists, replacing this season’s PPPs who, in turn, had replaced Previous Year’s PPPs.

Your thoughts on The View’s Season 20 panel? “I am very proud of the show that I created nearly two decades ago”. “We have an exciting season 20 planned and plenty of surprises in store”.

“We’re lucky to have terrific and talented guest co-hosts fill in at the table and we include Sara Haines on that list”, an ABC spokesperson said at the time.
