Cowboys RB Elliott will miss time with hamstring injury

The team is relying on the former Ohio State running back to do big things as a rookie.

Elliott’s hamstring flared up Tuesday during practice and the running back was unable to finish the workout. I don’t see him getting back out here. During his playing time in Ohio, Elliott garnered 1,878 yards in 15 games in 2014 while accumulated 1,821 yards in 13 games in 2015.

The Cowboys may be without their first-round pick for a little while. If you don’t watch them then they get worse. We have to make sure all the soreness is out and he’s ready to go before we put him back out there. Jones added “he may miss some time”. More than that would suggest a more serious injury, but until we’re looking at him out of pads for that long, there’s no reason to drop his ranking in Fantasy drafts.

The Cowboys are off Wednesday, but return to practice Thursday. Their third preseason game is August 25 at Seattle – hopefully this whole thing is a memory by then.

But this situation does underscore the importance of drafting Elliott’s backup.

Elliott had been working with the first-team offense with last year’s leading rusher, Darren McFadden, sidelined because of a broken elbow. Once McFadden is healed he should end up being involved in case Elliott misses time. Elliott’s ailment is thought to be minor and he is being held out for precautionary reasons, which is outstanding news for the Cowboys and fantasy owners alike.

“He’s sore. We’ll be obviously very conservative with that in terms of how he feels”, Jones said.
