Comedy Central Blocks ‘Stephen Colbert’ Character from ‘Late Show’ Appearances

Last week, in honor of the Republican National Convention, we all got to see “Stephen Colbert” again.

“What can I do?” he continued. And while his fans were overjoyed about the comeback, Colbert (the real one) said his old bosses weren’t. He introduced a new character named Stephen Colbert, who is the identical cousin of the character from Comedy Central.

“Which, is surprising, because I never thought of that guy as much of an intellectual”, Colbert joked on Wednesday night. The ratings are a disaster, losing out to re-runs of other late night shows, and he has been bashed for not finding his footing as a host. (Video here.) Meanwhile, for those interested in going deeper, the Hollywood Reporter delves into whether Viacom, Comedy Central’s parent company, can actually stop Colbert from playing Colbert.

He then introduced “Stephen Colbert’s identical cousin”, an interview with himself displaying the same cocked eyebrow expression his old character had.

“Most of all, Stephen, I want you to know”, new Stephen began.

The law might have a hold on Stephen Colbert – but it’s got nothing on Stephen Colbert! But he wasn’t allowed to do that, according to Viacom corporate lawyers.

“I play a cruel, out-of-touch reality TV star who wears insane wigs while delivering long-winded speeches to a violent dystopia”, she told the audience. A representatives from Comedy Central didn’t immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment. “Instead of focusing on my emails, let’s focus on what Donald Trump will do to females”, Cartoon Hillary said stiltedly.

He said there was another option for dissatisfied voters this fall: “Write in Michelle”.
