The program will feature the music industry’s most prominent artists, with the first list of performers to be announced including Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, Elton John, Diana Krall, k.d. lang, Rufus Wainwright and Stevie Wonder, as well as a performance by Bennett.
Crooner Tony Bennett celebrated his 90th birthday on Wednesday, declaring himself in great health and ready for a new collaboration – with Beyonce if she’s interested.
In Oct. 2015, Bennett revealed to Vulture that he and Gaga, who’s now at work on her upcoming pop album, planned to release a new album filled entirely with covers of Cole Porter songs. He’s also sung duets with some of the industry’s biggest singers, including Bono, Amy Winehouse, and Lady Gaga – with whom he released a full album of music, “Cheek to Cheek” in 2014. “I have loved performing for the public and sharing the music I love with the world”. Bennett will also be immortalized in bronze as an 8-foot statue of the singer will be unveiled at the Fairmont San Francisco.
This album won’t be the only thing keeping Bennett busy. “Just keep going at it, ‘” he said.
Discussing the thought of retiring, he explains, “I feel like I have so much more to learn yet”. “But I like that Beyoncé…” Just Getting Started chronicles the relationship Tony has enjoyed with each one of these legends, entertainers, humanitarians, and loved ones, and reveals how the lessons and values they imparted have shaped his life. “Yeah, she’s got a lot on the ball”.
