Fredette also put up solid numbers in summer league play.

Global basketball writer David Pick cited a source Tuesday morning, saying Jimmer, a Glens Falls native, had signed with Yao Ming’s former team. Former NBA stars such as Tracy McGrady, Steve Francis, and Al Harrington have all at one point or another played in the Chinese Basketball Association. Don’t be surprised if we see some cool interaction between the newly acquired Fredette and the one fans in China called “The Walking Great Wall”.

Fredette played in the NBA Summer League with the Denver Nuggets, including a group of players with whom he works out in the offseason while he stays in his wife’s hometown. This was a strategic move by Jimmer and his agent…not only will the former BYU star make a boat load of money playing in China, he’ll also average 35 points per game.

Fredette, the 2011 national player of the year and NCAA scoring champion, played most recently for the New York Knicks on a 10-day contract last season. He averaged 21.1 points per game, shot 41 percent from 3-point range, and earned league all-star MVP honors with the Knicks.

Among the attractive options to many Americans willing to play in China, though, is the four-month season that runs from October through mid-March. It was his second stint with the Pelicans after being part of the team in the 2014-15 season, where he played 50 games averaging 3.6 points per game. One of Fredette’s teammates there will be Guerschon Yabusele, a first-round pick of the Boston Celtics this June who will be stashed overseas for the 2016-17 season.
