Ed Balls will reportedly become the first male politician to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

But many are pointing out that Balls does have form, having been recorded dancing to Korean pop hit Gangnam Style at the 2014 Labour party conference.

Former Cabinet Minister and lifelong Canaries fan Ed Balls appointed as NCFC Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Mulling his chances of doing well on the show a year ago, he said: “Three marathons means I’m fit, but am I really fit enough for Strictly?”.

Other names rumored to be set for a run at the series, which pairs well-known faces with professional dancers, include singer Will Young, Birds of a Feather actor Lesley Joseph, former royal butler Paul Burrell and TV presenters Louise Redknapp and Laura Whitmore. “Seriously. He might do rather well”. Politicians Edwina Currie and Ann Widdecombe have both waltzed in a bid to win the coveted Glitter Ball trophy in past series.

Speaking on Radio 4 after he lost his Morley and Outwood seat to the Tory candidate in 2015, she laughed: “Somebody said maybe he should go and do Strictly Come Dancing – which is a terrifying thought”.

Speaking after speculation he would appear on the show previous year, his wife, former shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper, said: “I think he’d love to be, but I’m not sure what anyone else would make of it”.

The Daily Mirror quoted a source as saying: “Ed has got some moves”.

Mr Balls also failed in his bid to win a Christmas special of the Great British Bake Off a year ago.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to our screens later this year.

But this is not the first time the father-of-three has been linked to the BBC One show.

But in an interview previous year, Mr Balls, who has yet to confirm he will be appearing, said he wasn’t sure if he was up to appearing on the dance show.
