MLB Trade Rumors: Rich Hill, Josh Reddick traded to Los Angeles Dodgers

He is 8-16 with a 4.61 ERA in 37 major league appearances (36 starts). Somehow they added a very good big-league hitter who makes them even more susceptible to southpaws.

Former Delta High School football and baseball star Kevin Miller had many athletic idols growing up, but none was bigger than his father, Joe, the Saints’ longtime successful football coach. All three were ranked among Los Angeles’ top 10 prospects as ranked by Baseball America. While A’s fans and players are surely sad to see Hill and Reddick depart.

Both of Hill and Reddick are pending free agents, but they can’t be given the qualifying offer now that they’ve been traded in-season. “And we also are not interested in moving players and throwing some sort of white flag for the rest of the season”. His deal is also up at the end of the season, although it’s unclear if the Dodgers intend to discuss an extension with him or not.

As explained above, the Dodgers offense has been much better than the Athletics’ lately, and more run support is always a good thing for pitchers.

“Reddick’s been one of our core pieces”. We never take lightly when a player wants to stay in Oakland. However, Oakland can not afford expensive contracts. So before we all assume this signals the Blue Jays are looking to move on from Bautista and Saunders, keep in mind that Reddick is essentially a rental player and carries no term if acquired by the Blue Jays.

The A’s have talked privately about making Hill a qualifying offer at season’s end. Holmes was the 22 overall pick in 2014 out of Conway High School, and he quickly established himself as one of the top pitching prospects in a Dodgers’ system headlined by promising arms.

The headliner of this deal from the A’s perspective is Holmes, the 20-year-old SC native. His future value rating on Fangraphs is fifty on a 20-80 scale, which means he should be about league average. He did well in those outings and in starts for Oakland but has been plagued by blisters recently.

With the A’s (47-58) buried 11 games out of the second Wild Card spot, the A’s made a decision to ship off their two most enticing veterans in an effort to stockpile more young pitching in light of the injuries that have decimated this year’s rotation. He is 2-4 with a 5.53 ERA, but he pitched well against the Rays in his return to the majors after almost two months at AAA. Not all of his stats are bad though as he has posted a 1.15 WHIP and a 29.5 K%. He has struck out 100 and surrendered just six home runs in 105.1 innings. That is all the Athletics can hope for from all of their prospects.

LAD needed a reliable outfielder and bat, as well as a good pitcher, both of which they got.

On the other hand, I was familiar with all three pitchers and had favorable views of all three, so from a “best talent available” standpoint Oakland seemed to come out pretty well to get three highly regarded pitchers, two of whom could easily be factors in 2017.
