This marks the second straight year the Mets and Reds discussed a trade for Bruce, with talks falling apart last year when the Reds’ demands were more than the Mets were comfortable with parting for the outfielder.

A clear agreement between the Reds and the 29-year-old outfielder was settled with a chance to play this season given that Bruce increases his output from the 4.7 bWAR he recorded in 2011.

Bruce arrives as the National League’s RBI leader with 80. The Mets got Niese back from Pittsburgh on Monday for reliever Antonio Bastardo.

“If you ask me, he’s a Cespedes guy”, second baseman Neil Walker said of the newest Met, Jay Bruce. The Mets traded for Cincinnati Reds outfielder, Jay Bruce today with the hope he can jump-start an offense that has struggled all season.

Making a deadline deal past year helped a Mets team that was barely over.

Said Collins, “I think there’ll be some things that are addressed (with Niese)”. According to FanGraphs, Bruce is literally the worst right fielder in baseball, worth -15.8 runs defensively compared to the average right fielder in baseball. Some of his best seasons came for the National League Central champion Reds of 2010 and ’12, and the NL Wild Card-winning Reds in ’13.

The market for Jay Bruce continues to be turbulent, especially with less and less big hitters available to trade for. Terry Collins has now said that he will consider moving Cespedes back to center field potentially when is able to heal up a bit more in a week or so.

With the acquisition of Bruce, Granderson, Michael Conforto, and Cespedes (when healthy) will share time in center field, which is a defensive liability. It’s a flawless fit, and yet, it really isn’t.

“We start with the need for offense and work from there”, the GM said. That’s when the Mets traded for Yoenis Cespedes and took off like a rocket for the World Series. “We’re certainly adding a big bat to our lineup, which makes us that much better”.

Bruce can be an impact guy, as he has shown in eight-plus years with the Reds. A downside has been his career-long penchant for following a torrid streak with an incredibly cold one. He hit. 211 in 31 games with the Mets last season.

Cincinnati is into its second year of rebuilding, trading any high-priced veteran it can.

Bruce will love it here in NY, as the fans are behind their team. He made his major league debut in 2014 and hit. Herrera has hit. 215 with six homers and 17 RBI in 49 major league games. 276 with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs for Triple-A Las Vegas. Here’s a team that’s barely treading water at 54-50 on the season.
