Aston Villa and Fulham have agreed a fee for the transfer of striker Ross McCormack, the selling club have announced this morning.

The 29-year-old moved to Fulham from Leeds United in July 2014 for £11m, and has continued an impressive goalscoring record which he will now hope to take to Villa.

McCormack had been linked with a move to Newcastle and Norwich this summer, but has now linked up with Villa squad ahead of the league opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. The former Cardiff and Leeds frontman has a prolific reputation in the second tier, having scored a staggering 66 league goals in the past 3 seasons.

Thus far, they have signed Tommy Elphick, Pierluigi Gollini and Aaron Tshibola for a combined £12m, an outlay set to be doubled with the arrival of McCormack.

While some consider Villa to be automatic promotion contenders, Ian Holloway caused controversy by predicting Roberto Di Matteo’s side to finish in 16th place.

Of course signing Ross McCormack is always going to be well-received and that is certainly the view of Villa’s new manager Di Matteo in his views on the club website.
