The CDC has recommended that pregnant women be screened for Zika on every prenatal visit. The virus has spread rapidly through the Americas and Caribbean and its arrival in the continental United States has been widely anticipated.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a travel alert for pregnant woman and their families traveling or living in the Wynwood, Miami neighborhood where the cases were reported.
However, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), infection with the virus during pregnancy has been “strongly linked” with the birth condition microcephaly.

The CDC said that pregnant women who had been in Wynwood or had travelled there since June 15 and were in the first or second trimesters (weeks one to 27) should get tested.
