Indians beaten by last-place Twins again, 13-5

In the third consecutive game, the Indians’ starting pitcher failed to make it through four innings. In the series, Mauer is 10-for-15 with five doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBIs.

The Indians countered with three runs in the bottom of the first with a rally that began with two outs and nobody on base.

The Twins are 2-5 in their last seven Thursday games, and 6-1 in their last seven overall.

“I didn’t think (it was serious), but when you start looking in pitcher’s elbows, as some people can probably attest, you find all kinds of stuff”.

Minnesota starter Tyler Duffey (6-8) gave up five runs and eight hits in six innings, but that was good enough to get the win. He allowed one run and six hits in six innings. He is 5-2 with a 1.61 ERA in his last eight outings. Brian Dozier had a triple, a homer, three runs and three RBIs, and Max Kepler contributed two hits, two runs and two RBIs. So much went on in this game that it’s hard to write a recap for it. Every time the Indians tried to claw back, the Twins stomped on the accelerator and sped off into the sunset.

The German-born Kepler homered off All-Star Danny Salazar in the first and third innings and hit another off Cody Anderson in the sixth. Bauer fell to 7-and-5. Minnesota scored five times in the inning.

The Indians’ lead in the AL Central is down to 2.0 games over the Tigers, who beat the White Sox in Detroit for their eighth straight victory.

The Indians would not get on the board until another Twins run crossed the plate thanks to a Joe Mauer single in the second inning, probably his worst at-bat of the game. Lonnie Chisenhall charged in and dove for it, momentarily appearing to catch it, but it was ruled a two-run single.

– When Joe Mauer doubled in the first inning Wednesday, you knew what was coming. Miguel Sano had the Twins’ fourth double in two innings, scoring Mauer and Kepler to push the Minnesota lead to 8-0. Kennys Vargas, the next batter, walked, and Salazar was removed from the game. Carrasco threw 92 pitches and allowed eight earned runs, twice as many as he had allowed in any of his first 15 starts of the season.

The Twins led 8-4 going into the sixth inning, in which each team scored a run, Minnesota on an RBI double by Rosario, and the Indians on Napoli’s home run.

Matt Wieters had two RBI for the AL East-leading Orioles, whose 39-16 record at home is the best in the majors. Jorge Polanco unloaded the bases with a triple into the gap in right-center field, giving the Twins an 8-3 lead.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar has been placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

OF Brandon Guyer, who the Indians acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays before Monday’s deadline, will replace Salazar on Cleveland’s 25-man roster.

Minnesota Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar (5) and second baseman Brian Dozier (2) celebrate the Twins’ 13-5 win over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Wednesday.
