US women’s soccer opens with shutout victory
That’s what’s at stake for the USA this August.

It got off to a quick start on that Wednesday when Lloyd, who scored the final goal in the last two Olympic competitions, scored the first for the U.S.in these Games just nine minutes into the competition.
The Germans continued to dominate in the second half at the Arena Corinthians, with goals from Behringer in the 53rd and 78th minutes.
Sweden’s Caroline Seger, right, and South Africa’s Refiloe Jane fight for the ball during the opening match of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament between Sweden and South Africa at the Rio Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, .
Looking for the US vs New Zealand Women’s soccer Olympic game tv channel schedule? As they fight for a fifth gold medal, the women are also waging a battle over equal pay.
Zimbabwe is playing in the women’s soccer tournament for the first time.
This was after claiming gold in London 2012 and also winning last year’s World Cup. She’s off to a fast start.
Don’t overlook how Lloyd wound up with that first goal.
Heath stutter-stepped on the left corner of the box, then flicked a brilliantly weighted ball into the center of the box, where Lloyd nudged it past keeper Erin Nayler’s outstretched arms.
But while Lloyd, 34, has been a model of consistency in recent times, the alignment of teammates around her has not. The Americans saw timely goals from Carli Lloyd and Morgan to open each half and stellar defense throughout from goalkeeper Hope Solo and the back line. For the remainder of the game Team USA keep the New Zealanders confused and chasing as they defended their end.
When healthy, she’s undoubtedly the USWNT’s best striker.
This time around, Morgan is healthy. “Even if we hadn’t won the World Cup we’d still be under tremendous pressure to win”.
The truth is that Lloyd doesn’t care what her impact is on the field as long as she’s able to help the US women’s soccer team win another title.
The U.S. won. The U.S. will nearly definitely advance to the knockout round.
That’s not to say the USWNT played poorly, it just didn’t live up to the perhaps unfair expectations it created. But right now, the USWNT is focused on taking on New Zealand. For the U.S. Women’s soccer team, the road to gold is only beginning.
In the Olympics opener for the USA on Wednesday, Lloyd started off scoring in the 9th minute with a very well-taken header.
Which is why I don’t anticipate this being an issue for much longer.
It was the 89th goal in 225 appearances for the midfielder, who is the most-capped player at the Olympics tournament. “And if they had fun at my expense, more power to them”.
