The turbulent week, including Trump’s criticism of the Muslim soldier’s family and sinking poll numbers, has led to low morale within his small campaign team.

Until recently, many Republicans opposed to Trump had stopped short of supporting Clinton, saying they would vote for a third party or “write-in” candidate.

The officials, including one with direct knowledge of Priebus’ thinking, were granted anonymity to discuss internal strategy because they were not authorized to discuss the sensitive issuer publicly. “I urge all Republicans to reject Donald Trump this November”, she said.

“Let me just say flatly, I am totally for John McCain, who is a great war hero and a terrific human being, who has worked very hard for veterans”, Gingrich said Wednesday.

Trump has made the loss of manufacturing jobs a key part of his campaign, bemoaning outsourcing by companies like Carrier and Nabisco and threatening to impose tariffs on goods American companies produce overseas.

“I’m sure you’ll also find that the positions/values of the candidates are not necessarily a sole reflection of the individual promoting or supporting said candidate”, she added. “He does support Paul Ryan”.

Instead, she pointed her finger at Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders’ decision to support Clinton.

The Times report is accurate, but Priebus was frustrated with Trump and his campaign long before Trump’s cheeky comments balking on supporting Ryan.

“Wouldn’t that be embarrassing to lose to crooked Hillary Clinton?”

“It’s natural for campaigns to go through evolutions and reexaminations”, he said.

In an interview later Wednesday with Florida’s WPEC-TV, Trump was asked if he was being “baited into battles”. “I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking”. He needs to focus on Hillary, and only Hillary. And even after that, the frazzled follower still maintained that it was “understandable” that Trump “wants to defend himself”.

He told Fox News, “This is the first I’m hearing about that”. Their son, Humayun Khan, was an U.S. army captain in Iraq and died in combat in 2004.

Party chair Reince Priebus, a close friend of Ryan, is deeply irritated by Trump’s recent actions and his unwillingness to listen to the advice of senior advisers.

“If you are repeatedly having to say, in very strong terms, that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?” In an emotional appearance at the convention, Khizr Khan criticized Trump for proposing to temporarily freeze the entry of foreign Muslims into the USA and accused him of making no sacrifices for his country.

But while Trump quickly dove off message, the Republican nominee neither relitigated his feud with the Khans nor did he hint at his reluctance to endorse Ryan and other congressional Republicans. Trump also said he was not supporting McCain in his primary in Arizona, and he dismissed Senator Kelly Ayotte as a weak and disloyal leader in New Hampshire.

“I don’t know how the Republican Party survives if Trump becomes president”, he said. Clinton raised about $90 million over the same period.
