GOP Sen. Ron Johnson Calls On Trump To Apologize To Khan Family

Their son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, 27, was killed by a auto bomber in 2004 in Iraq.

Khan made an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week alongside his wife, blasting Trump for his rhetoric toward Muslims in a speech that drew national attention.

Meredith says they are upset over Trump’s comments that he too has sacrificed and that Mrs. Khan didn’t speak at the Democratic National Convention because she is Muslim.

Trump fired back saying Khan had “no right” to “viciously” criticize him and implied that Khan’s wife was forced to stay silent during the speech because she is Muslim. Ron Johnson has called on Trump to apologize, and U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Gov. Scott Walker have defended the Khan family.

Donald Trump has blustered his way to the Republican primaries, clinching the nomination.

McCain said: “I can not emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statements”.

And when voters were asked about Trump’s criticism of the Khan family, only 19 percent said it was “in bounds”, while 69 percent said it was “out of bounds”.

Donald Trump’s exchange with the father of an Army captain killed in Iraq is still dominating political headlines, and it’s causing more Republicans to distance themselves from their party’s nominee.

“You have sacrificed nothing and no one”, Khizr Khan said. On Tuesday, Trump said he was gifted a Purple Heart medal by a veteran who told him, “You’re the one to lead this country, I want you to have it”.

Branstad and Ernst spoke at Trump’s July 28 rallies in Cedar Rapids and Davenport, and Branstad said in Cedar Rapids that he planned on stumping for Trump “as much as possible” in the months running up to Election Day, Nov. 8. “If your Senator does a statement please send a copy to me so I can catalog them”, Rob Wasinger wrote in an email to staffers for Republicans on Capitol Hill.

“I said nice things about the son”, he said.

The DCCC said on Wednesday that when Trump insults the family of war hero, it’s the responsibility of leaders to condemn his comments and his candidacy. He said the focus should be on “radical Islamic terrorism”, not the parents.

Khizr Khan, who was born in Pakistan, told BBC News that Trump can not expect to insult women, judges, and members of his own party, and not face criticism.
