A new hope as USA network eyes Star Wars TV series
Such a universe expansion has always been rumoured, and ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey, was questioned on the issue recently at the Television Critics Association. Not only are talks ongoing, but the statement “we don’t have an official timeline yet” sounds like the show is all but a given, and that it’s just a matter of when. It worked, most notably, with Marvel, and the company also recently rebooted its Muppets properties into new TV shows.

When it comes to bringing projects from the Star Wars world to TV, Lucasfilm hasn’t been shy, but so far it’s been children’s programming like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. “We’ve had conversations with Lucas, and we’re continuing those conversations with Lucas”. At the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey was asked about Star Wars joining its schedule. That series, tentatively titled Star Wars: Underworld, was eventually scuppered in 2010 due to budgetary restriction, though there was talk of Netflix picking it up again earlier this year. After the panel, Dungey dodged follow-up questions about Star Wars.
A TV series set in the underbelly of Coruscant was conceptualized years ago by Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum, but was unable to find a network or funding.

Disney now has Star Wars Rebels airing on Disney XD, but it seems they have not ruled out the possibility of a live-action Star Wars TV series.
