Mike Pence Breaks With Donald Trump: ‘I Strongly Support’ Paul Ryan

Trump also declined to endorse McCain’s re-election bid.

Hours earlier Thursday, Pence set off alarms inside the Republican establishment when he declined to back the senators from Arizona and New Hampshire.

The Indiana governor ignored reporters’ questions at a Denver airport Wednesday about whether he’ll endorse McCain.

This past week, Trump became embroiled in another controversy when he criticized the parents of Humayun Khan, a Muslim U.S. soldier killed in Iraq.

Anxious that that may not be enough, Priebus also joined a handful of high-profile Trump allies in considering whether to confront the candidate directly following a series of startling stances and statements with Election Day quickly approaching.

“I think Donald Trump and I see eye to eye on all those issues”, Pence said.

John Weaver, a former McCain aide (who more recently ran John Kasich’s campaign), tweeted that McCain campaigned for Pence when he was “desperate”.

Mike Pence is urging supporters in battleground Colorado to convince their neighbors to vote for Donald Trump. “Only someone with real-life experience outside politics can bring the bold, fresh, fearless new leadership it will take to win”.

“Sen. McCain has provided the kind of leadership throughout his career that has stood up for our military stood up for a strong America and we talked about that and the need to have the kind of leadership in the White House that will rebuild the military”, he told ABC affiliate KNXV. “These are two men building a good relationship and I’m very confident after Donald Trump’s elected president and Paul Ryan is reelected to Congress and as speaker of the House these two men are going to do great things”.

Asked about Paul Nehlen, his primary opponent, who is telling voters that the speaker is aligned with Clinton, Ryan didn’t mention him by name, but said he is “making stuff up to try and make it stick”. “But I will do this”, Ryan said.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Trump originally praised a baby after it cried out during his event in Virginia before saying: “Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here?”

Nehlen says Ryan’s public oppositions to Trump’s policies do not represent Wisconsin Republicans. “Go ahead and do it, 100 percent.’ And he endorsed him”. Trump has made some of his attacks a part of his stump speech: He’s repeatedly said that the November election “is going to be rigged” and referred to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as “the Devil”. In fact, Trump has given Pence wide latitude to speak his mind and has personally encouraged him to stay true to his own ideas, believing Pence is loyal to the campaign.

“Donald Trump and Mike Pence recognize that we can not win Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat in November with McCain, the ultimate establishment insider and champion of compromise, as our nominee”, she said in a statement.

“He’s staying consistent with his character and he’s not changing who he is, but he’s also careful not to criticize his spouse”, said Indiana Republican public affairs consultant Mike Murphy, who has known Pence for almost 30 years.
