Andy Murray Named Team GB Olympic Flag Bearer
Rio de Janeiro: Andy Murray came perilously close to “poking out the eye” of Britain´s Princess Anne in a botched dress rehearsal for Friday´s Olympic Games opening ceremony where he will carry the country´s flag.

The three-time Grand Slam champion, who won gold in the men’s singles at London 2012, will lead out 55 British athletes at the Macarana Stadium in two days’ time.
As well as bearing the flag in tomorrow’s opening ceremony, Andy Murray will be competing in the men’s doubles and men’s singles at Rio.
“But again, I’ve got to stay humble, I’ve got to take a very cautious mindset in preparation to this Olympic Games”.
“It was unfortunate with Roger [Federer] and Stan [Wawrinka], they are two guys who are great players and capable of winning events like this”, Murray said after his first practice session at the Olympic Tennis Centre in Rio on Tuesday.
Aside from his support for Scottish independence from the rest of the United Kingdom a couple of years ago, there surely couldn’t be a better choice of flag bearer for the British team at the Rio Games.
Murray described being picked as the Team GB flag bearer was an “incredible honour”.
Decorated track cycling champion Chris Hoy led the British team out on home soil at London 2012.
“I’m honoured to be chosen, proud to represent the United States, and humbled by the significance of carrying the flag and all it stands for”, Phelps, whose 22 previous medals make him the most successful summer Olympian, said Wednesday. “It was an emotional moment for him personally, and for this team”, he added.
Andy Murray wasn’t the only Murray who won a Wimbledon title on Sunday. “This shows the Olympic experience to be with other athletes from around the world and gather together”.
“He has done so much for Great Britain, he has won gold and silver in London, he has won (the) Davis Cup”.
“It would be ranked as one of the highest if not the highest achievement that I would have in my career”, said Djokovic.
Then there is the controversial Nick Kyrgios, who announced in June he wouldn’t be playing after his behavior was criticized by his country’s Olympic chef de mission, Kitty Chiller.
Among the first-round highlights: No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the 2008 Games singles bronze medalist, will face Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro, the 2012 Games singles bronze medalist.

“The proudest moment for me, when they do the on-court announcements”, she said, “are the Olympic results”. The Beijing gold medallist had been due to perform the honour in London but was forced to pull out through injury.
