Sanders lets civil rights activists open LA campaign event

Clinton scored the first major union endorsement in July when the American Federation of Teachers endorsed the Democratic frontrunner.

National Nurses United, the nation’s largest organization of nurses, endorsed Vermont Sen, Bernie Sanders for the 2016 presidential race, a blow to Hillary Clinton as the Democratic front-runner seeks to court key labor voters. “And I think having a national union endorsing him helps move the perception for the Sanders’ campaign that he is more than someone who can get more endorsements”, Newman said.

The 185,000-member National Nurses United is endorsing Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination during an event with the senator in Oakland, California.

The union’s executive director, RoseAnn DeMoro, says Sanders “says what he means, and that’s reflected in his work“.

He’s attracting those who are “dissatisfied and unhappy with the centrist positions that seem to dominate when it comes to nominating a presidential candidate”, Citrin said, nudging Clinton – who was rolling out her own college affordability plan Monday in Iowa – to adopt more liberal stances.

“We have to change the health care system in America and we have to change, boldly and fundamentally, the priorities of this nation”, Sanders said. And he said that our paltry health care system is a global embarrassment. “A month ago, I switched to democrat so I could vote for Bernie Sanders, because I believe in the Constitution and protecting it”.

But Clinton has been reluctant to come out against the TPP; she was secretary of state in Obama’s first term and an influential player in the administration’s effort to build stronger ties with Asia.

“She provides a unique and accomplished set of credentials that the other candidates don’t have”, Twomey said. He trails by only 6.6 points in New Hampshire, perhaps partly by dint of his quarter-century as a congressman and senator from neighboring Vermont. Sanders has been drawing large crowds in recent weeks, including tens of thousands of supporters over the weekend at stops in Seattle and Portland.

On Monday, a nurse asked Sanders by phone how he would address racism within the criminal justice system. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, visited the Bay Area on Monday to rally supporters. “He can talk about our issues as well as we can talk about our issues”.
