Athol Trollip calls out ANC after shock win in Nelson Mandela Bay
Trollip said their victory started with the Kouga municipality, because the people there could see what was happening in the Western Cape and they wanted it there.

They did not know what the hold-up was in announcing results, he said. “I think the future of South Africa may very well be how coalitions work; how we find each other and how we make sure we deliver for the people”. The DA’s use of Nelson Mandela’s legacy in its election campaign has been controversial and Maimane said it was “beautiful” that the party would govern a city named after the former president.
The DA had 53 percent of the votes compared with 37 percent garnered by the African National Congress (ANC), with 62 percent of the vote counted.
“I was talking to the chairperson of the IEC saying to him why are you leaking the results to the DA before”, Mantashe told journalists.
ANC regional task team coordinator Beza Ntshona said there had been widespread irregularities at voting stations across the metro, and that the results – the votes are still being counted – would not reflect the will of the people of the metro.
The ANC’s objection may result in further delays in declaring the results of the election in the metro. “There are still a number of things that must be raised around Nelson Mandela”.
Meanwhile, S’thembile Cele reports that the results of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro will be declared tonight.
The ballot papers were found abandoned at the tent.
“We’re just waiting for the final count”, Maimane said at the IEC results centre in Pretoria.
By the time you read this column, most of you would have voted in the municipal elections, but it will be interesting to see how your votes shape this country for the future, whether for the good or bad.

The IEC predicted that all results would be finalised by Friday evening. “It is not long now though”, he said.
