Twins: RHP Ervin Santana opens a three-game series in Tampa Bay.
“It’s a good feeling”, he said. “I was ecstatic. I’ve had two before in the minors and once up here”.
“I’m not disappointed at all, really”, he said.
Meanwhile, Gibson held the Indians scoreless on three hits through the first four innings and then the roof caved in on him in the fifth when he gave up six runs with two runs. Indians 1B Mike Napoli has homered in five straight games.3.
Kepler singled in the ninth off Zach McAllister to raise his average to.256.
Minnesota carried its 8-6 lead into the ninth before Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run homer off Austin Adams.
Cleveland added three runs off Michael Tonkin in the seventh inning, one scoring when Davis singled, stole second (despite a pitchout) and third, and came home on a pitchout.
Jose Berrios (2-1) retired 15 straight after a three-run first inning.
The Indians got two runs back when center fielder Tyler Naquin blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Twins answered with one of their own off of Cleveland reliever Zach McAllister when Rosario doubled home Kepler.
Miller received a standing ovation from the crowd of 15,018 when he ran in from the bullpen. “It’s fun to be part of a team that’s scoring that many runs”, the Twins manager said.
Not wanting to completely show the veterans up, Clevinger allowed a run in the fourth inning, and a leadoff home run in the fifth.
Unlike the first three games in which the Indians found themselves in a significant hole early on, they grabbed a lead on Thursday.
Twins: RHP Tyler Duffey is 0-2 with a 27.00 ERA over his last two starts. Kipnis walked and Lindor belted his 13th home run over the wall in center field, extending the Indians’ lead to 7-2.
Jorge Polanco’s sacrifice bunt moved Escobar to third, and Juan Centeno drew a walk.
Salazar didn’t pitch in the All-Star Game because the Indians wanted to rest his arm.
Indians manager Terry Francona admitted his ace hasn’t pitched well of late, but added, “He doesn’t look like somebody that’s hurt to me”.
“It’s been there for a while but it’s getting worse”, Salazar said. “I want to find out what’s going on, so I know what’s in there”.
Guyer batted just.241 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 63 games with the Rays this season, although the 30-year-old feasted on left-handed pitching.
“We play a game that’s unpredictable in a lot of ways”, Molitor said. “You have to play through tough times”.
Twins: OF Byron Buxton (right knee) is considered day-to-day after an MRI revealed no damage beyond an existing bone bruise.
Cleveland Indians’ Carlos Santana, right, gets congratulations from Mike Napoli after hitting a three run home run off Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Hector Santiago during the third inning of a baseball game Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, in Cleveland.
