A Dutch teenage girl has been killed while bungee jumping from a viaduct near Santander in northern Spain.

The teen was reportedly on a camping trip with a group whose jumps yesterday were arranged by an adventure sports company.

“Apparently, she was not fully secured when she jumped”, Mayor Esther Merino said after the accident which happened on Monday evening.

The jump took place from the top of a bridge over the A8 road at Cabezon de la Sal in Cantabria.

They were taking part in a type of bungee jumping called “puenting”; which involves diving and then swinging beneath a bridge. The police note that emergency personnel were sent to the seen in a bid to save the young girl’s life.

It is understood that medics attempted to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
